Police Launch AI Tool to Answer Non-Emergency Calls

The Colorado Springs Police Department has launched Prepared by Axon in its Public Safety Communications Center.

The system transcribes 911 calls, translates in real time in dozens of languages, flags key details and writes call summaries. Non-emergency calls are now answered first by an AI agent called S.A.R.A.H., and callers can still ask for a person.

The department says non-emergency calls make up more than half of the calls the center receives, and handling them this way should free call takers for emergencies. Testing began in April 2026.
