Modesto Library Names January 11 as First Full Day Back

The county library has set a January 2027 reopening target. Its collection is temporarily closed for the move, while other branches remain available.

Modesto Library's first full day of operations is scheduled for Monday, January 11, 2027, according to the Stanislaus County Library website. The library says details of a grand reopening celebration and ribbon-cutting will be announced when finalized.

The move is underway

The improvement-project update says the Modesto collection temporarily closed beginning October 12 so staff could move it from storage in Salida back to Modesto. That temporary collection closure matters when planning holds: an older description of pickup arrangements should not be read as a guarantee that a particular item is currently available.

The building closed on November 30, 2024, for infrastructure work. The county lists heating, ventilation and air conditioning, elevators, asbestos remediation, and lighting among the improvements.

Check before making the trip

For service before reopening, use the current branch directory to check open locations and hours. Ask library staff about a specific hold or item before traveling.
