Old Stratton Park Plan Approved, With a Public Opening Planned for 2027

The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Advisory Board approved a plan on Sept. 10 for Old Stratton Park, with a public opening planned for 2027.

The 8.48-acre park at 1819 W. Cheyenne Road was developed by Winfield Scott Stratton and completed in 1902. It was sold to a P.E.O. chapter house in the mid-1960s, and the city acquired it in 2021.

Phase 1 includes a natural soft-surface trail, street parking on West Cheyenne Road, an entrance and rules kiosk, creek overlooks, post-and-dowel fencing and boundary markers. Dogs and bicycles (including e-bikes) are not allowed; adaptive mobility devices are. The city calls it “a quieter place to walk, experience nature and learn about the natural and cultural history.” The future of the former P.E.O. building is still undecided.
