Colorado Springs Refunding Drivers Charged $80 Instead of $40 by Speed Cameras

Colorado Springs says a July 21 software update by vendor Verra Mobility put an $80 fine on speed safety camera citations that should have been $40.

The error affected 2,764 citations issued through Sept. 1 in neighborhood and park zones, at 34 of 1,212 camera locations. About 700 had already been paid. Drivers who paid $80 will get a $40 refund by check, expected within four to six weeks, and unpaid citations now show the correct $40.

The city says all 2,764 violations were valid, each involving a vehicle going at least 11 mph over the limit.

Refund inquiries go to the Colorado Springs Police Department, c/o Automated Photo Safety Enforcement Program, PO Box 22000, Tempe, AZ 85285-2091.
