Museum Passes With Your Library Card: Check the Rules Before You Go

Stanislaus County Library's Discover & Go program offers free and discounted attraction passes, with card eligibility, reservation and printing rules worth checking first.

By The Epic Gazette · · Stanislaus County

Before buying tickets for a museum outing, Stanislaus County residents have another place to look: their library. Discover & Go offers free and discounted attraction passes, but planning the visit means checking more than whether you have a card.

Check the card before planning the trip

According to the library's Discover & Go page, reservations are available to county residents age 18 or older with a full-access library card in good standing. Expired, temporary and digital-services cards do not qualify.

The library page links to the reservation portal. Sign in with your card number and PIN, browse by attraction or date, and check the individual offer before reserving. A pass is valid for its named person and date, and valid photo identification is required.

Reserve first; print when your plans are settled

The library's program FAQ says cardholders may hold two active reservations and book up to three months ahead. Passes are first come, first served, with new passes released at the beginning of each month. Some attractions impose a once-per-calendar-year limit.

There is an important commitment point: the library says a reservation cannot be canceled after its pass has been downloaded or printed. If your plans change beforehand, cancel through the portal; the FAQ says library staff cannot cancel it for you. An unused, uncanceled reservation counts toward your limit. Read the cancellation rules.

Build the outing around the actual offer

Before reserving, compare the pass's admission details with your group's plans. Check the attraction's own hours and any separate reservation instructions. Allow for travel and any costs the offer does not cover. A free admission offer is most useful when the whole trip fits your budget.

This is a program guide, not a report of today's ticket inventory. Availability is determined in the portal. For help with eligibility or an expired card, start with the library's official instructions.
